Claes Moeyaert achieved prominence as the creator of biblical, historic and mythological scenes. His biblical history painting is justifiably amongst his most famous work. The present painting, which originates from the well-known collection of the Swedish Count Oxenstjerna, may be numbered amongst the most charming of pictures in this part of his oeuvre.
